The Southern Arizona Catholic Diocese has partnered with Integrated Community Solutions to Active Violence Events (ICSAVE) to provide emergency readiness and situation training for all its employees and key volunteers. Southern Arizona now has 15 more trained and certified immediate responders among their ranks! On Tuesday, February 20th, these exceptional diocese clergy, educators, administrators, executives and support personnel, who came from as far away as Green Valley and Eloy to attend, completed the necessary educational requirements to obtain American College of Surgeon’s Bleeding Control Certification. Civilians need basic training in Bleeding Control principles so they can provide immediate, frontline aid until first responders can take over care of an injured person. Due to many situations, there may be a delay between the time of injury and the time a first responder is on the scene. Without civilian intervention in these circumstances, preventable deaths may occur. Although no single set of skills or response can fit all injury, trauma, or active violence situations, making sure everyone knows his or her options and can react decisively will save valuable time and lives. As members of our extended community family, these women and men now have the knowledge, skills, and abilities to help save a life!

ICSAVE was honored to present at this year’s International Trauma Life Support Conference (ITLS) held in Laughlin, Nevada. The three-day educational event brought together over 100 health care professionals from 4 different states to discuss a myriad of subjects, to include the importance of Community Resilience and Bleeding Control Training Programs. Those in attendance unanimously supported the practice of educating, training and empowering everyone to become Immediate Responders. Our thoughts, prayers and deepest condolences are with the Floridian victims and their loved ones. In the deadliest high school mass shooting in modern American history, a heavily armed young man opened fire on terrified students and teachers at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Fla., on Wednesday, leaving a death toll of 17. Those who want to help the victims and families affected by Wednesday’s tragedy don't have to physically be in Florida to assist. The Broward Education Foundation created a GoFundMe page in an effort to raise money to financially help the victims and their families. The campaign is hoping to reach its goal of $600,000. OneBlood has asked people with O-negative blood, regardless of location, to take the time to donate to help with the blood supply.
