The Pittsburgh Shooting Victims – How You Can Help

You'll find the original release of this post The Pittsburgh Shooting Victims – How You Can Help at this website: icsave.org

On Saturday, October 27, a gunman entered the Tree of Life Synagogue in Pittsburgh, PA, killing 11 people and wounding six others. The shooting is the deadliest attack on the Jewish community in United States history. Here are six concrete ways you can help: 1. Give money directly to the synagogue and survivors: The money raised from the verified GoFundMe fundraiser will go to the survivors and families of the victims, and it will also help with repairing damages to the building. Funds will be sent directly to the Tree of Life Congregation. You can also donate money through Tree of Life's website, and they accept donations through phone, check, or PayPal. Or you can donate 0.5% of your Amazon purchases to the synagogue when you set your charity of choice to the Tree of Life Congregation. 2. Donate to the Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society: The Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society, or HIAS, is an organization that was initially started to help Jewish refugees, but now helps all refugees worldwide. As The Cut reports, the shooter named HIAS in his anti-Semitic social media posts, and according to Newsweek, he believed the organization was aiding a caravan of Central American migrants heading to the U.S. border. HIAS released a statement on the Tree of Life shooting, and they're accepting financial donations. They also recommend other ways you can get involved, from organizing a rally to talking to candidates running in the midterm elections. 3. Support causes championed by the victims: Achieva is an organization that supports people with disabilities, and two of the victims of the shooting, brothers Cecil and David Rosenthal, received services from Achieva. In lieu of flowers, the brothers asked for donations to Tree of Life and/or Achieva. 4. Contribute to organizations supporting the community: The Jewish Federation of Greater Pittsburgh's fundraiser will help with medical bills, psychological services, and additional security throughout the community. The LaunchGood campaign, a fundraiser set up by two Muslim organizations, CelebrateMercy and MPower Change, is raising funds to help with funeral expenses and medical bills for the victims. 5. Go to a vigil: The Anti-Defamation League has partnered with local organizations to set up gatherings and vigils in remembrance of the victims. You can see a full list on their website. 6. Give blood: As local news site WPXI reports, a number of organizations have set up blood drives for victims of the shooting. The non-profit blood center Vitalant is asking for blood donations, and you can set up an appointment online. The American Red Cross is also holding a drive on Friday, November 2 and Friday, November 30 from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m, and appointments are required. Call 1-800-RED CROSS to schedule, or search for open slots using the code "PITT" on the Red Cross website. To the victims affected by this tragedy, you are in our thoughts and prayers. From our ICSAVE Family to yours, we will NEVER forget you nor your strength in the face of this horrible event!

Pima Community College Phlebotomy Students Ready to Save a Life!

This particular blog post Pima Community College Phlebotomy Students Ready to Save a Life! had been originally submitted on: www.icsave.org

Pima County residents now have 40 more trained and certified immediate responders among their ranks! On Monday, October 22nd, these exceptional young men and women from Pima Community College’s Phlebotomy Program, completed the necessary educational requirements to obtain American College of Surgeon’s Bleeding Control Certification. Civilians need basic training in Bleeding Control principles so they can provide immediate, frontline aid until first responders can take over care of an injured person. Due to many situations, there may be a delay between the time of injury and the time a first responder is on the scene. Without civilian intervention in these circumstances, preventable deaths may occur. Although no single set of skills or response can fit all injury, trauma, or active violence situations, making sure everyone knows his or her options and can react decisively will save valuable time and lives. As members of our extended community family, these young professionals now have the knowledge, skills, and abilities to help save a life!

ICSAVE is proud to be a part of this year’s Tucson Meet Yourself (TMY) Festival. The festival has been held each year in Downtown Tucson, Arizona since 1974. TMY was founded by University of Arizona folklorist and anthropologist Dr. James “Big Jim” Griffith, who in 2011 was honored by the National Endowment for the Arts with a prestigious recognition as a “National Heritage” treasure. TMY is the signature annual event of the Southwest Folklife Alliance (SFA). SFA produces a number of other programs that help support, honor and promote the traditional arts and heritage practices of the region and that complement the festival year-round. TMY has had a long history of partnership and shared goals with the University of Arizona. To learn more about that history go here. TMY is building a community that respects traditions, culture, diversity and honors the land and environment (“sense of place”) unique to the desert borderlands. We have several ongoing partnerships with other organizations in our region dedicated to fostering compassion, integrity, and stewardship of the land and our Southwestern cultural ways. Hurricane Michael Relief Efforts

The following short article: Hurricane Michael Relief Efforts was initially seen on www.icsave.org

Hurricane Michael became the most powerful storm to ever make landfall on the Florida Panhandle coast on October 10, bringing surging floodwaters and winds that reached 155 miles per hour. The powerful storm surprised many in the region, growing from a tropical storm to a destructive Category 4 Hurricane in just 40 hours. As a result, more than 375,000 people up and down the Gulf Coast were urged to evacuate quickly, many of whom stayed behind to ride out the potentially deadly storm. Several members of ICSAVE are presently deployed assisting with disaster relief efforts and, given the magnitude of these events, recognize the need is greater than ever before. For those not directly affected by this tragedy, we encourage you to give to the relief effort. The Red Cross depends on financial donations to provide disaster relief. You can help people affected by Hurricane Michael by visiting redcross.org, calling 1- 800-RED CROSS or texting the word MICHAEL to 90999 to make a $10 donation. Donors can designate their donation to Hurricane Michael relief efforts by choosing that option when donating on redcross.org or on 1-800-RED CROSS. The best way to ensure your donation will go to a specific disaster is to write the specific event name in the memo line of a check. We also recommend completing and mailing the donation form on redcross.org with your check. To the brave men, women and children affected by this calamity, you are in our thoughts and prayers. From our ICSAVE Family to yours, we will NEVER forget you nor ever leave you BEHIND!
