Oro Valley CERT Members Our Latest Community Superheroes!

This particular blog post Oro Valley CERT Members Our Latest Community Superheroes! had been originally produced on: www.ICSAVE.org

The town of Oro Valley now has 15 more community superheroes among their ranks! On Wednesday, November 28th, these dedicated Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) members completed the necessary educational requirements to obtain American College of Surgeon’s Bleeding Control Certification. Civilians need basic training in Bleeding Control principles so they can provide immediate, frontline aid until first responders can take over care of an injured person. Due to many situations, there may be a delay between the time of injury and the time a first responder is on the scene. Without civilian intervention in these circumstances, preventable deaths may occur. Although no single set of skills or response can fit all injury, trauma, or active violence situations, making sure everyone knows his or her options and can react decisively will save valuable time and lives. As members of our extended community family, these exceptional men and women now have the knowledge, skills, and abilities to help save a life! We want to extend a special thank you to the brave men and women of the Oro Valley Police Department who are making these lifesaving presentations, skills, trainings, and drills possible.

The California Fire Victims – How You Can Help

This particular article: The California Fire Victims – How You Can Help was first found on the ICSAVE.org blog

Three wildfires in California have displaced hundreds of thousands of people and destroyed thousands of homes. So far, dozens of people have been confirmed dead and hundreds more are missing. Vast expanses of land have been scorched in Northern California by the Camp Fire — the deadliest and most destructive wildfire in the state’s history — and in Southern California by the Woolsey and Hill Fires. Here’s how you can help: American Red Cross: This nonprofit has opened shelters across the state to help evacuees. They also have an online tool that people can use to register themselves as safe so loved ones can find them. California Community Foundation’s Wildfire Relief Fund: For 15 years, the foundation has offered aid to those affected by wildfires. Grants have gone to rebuilding homes, providing financial and mental health assistance and helping those affected to get medical treatment. California Fire Foundation: This organization is on the ground distributing financial assistance to people who have lost everything in the fires. Through its emergency assistance program, firefighters distribute pre-paid gift cards to help those who need to purchase necessities like food, medicine and clothing. Caring Choices: This nonprofit, which is in Chico, Calif., has turned into a hub for organizing volunteers to help those affected by the Camp Fire. Volunteers are assigned a variety of duties, including caring for displaced animals and, for those who are certified doctors or nurses, offering medical care. The organization has paused taking on new volunteers for the next few days but still encourages applications. It said it will need extra hands in the coming weeks. Caring Choices is also seeking monetary donations for its operations. Enloe Medical Center: This 298-bed hospital is in Chico, the site of multiple evacuation centers for the Camp Fire. It is accepting donations for patients and families who have been displaced. Entertainment Industry Foundation: This nonprofit, started by Hollywood stars, has a fund that helps firefighters and other emergency workers battling California wildfires. One of its beneficiaries is the Los Angeles Fire Department Foundation, which provides hydration backpacks and night vision goggles for helicopter pilots. Humane Society of Ventura County: This nonprofit is accepting donations to help animals displaced by the Woolsey and Hill Fires. It is taking in domestic animals, such as dogs, cats and birds, as well as livestock. North Valley Community Foundation: This nonprofit in Chico is raising money to support organizations that are sheltering evacuees of the Camp Fire. These could include churches, fairgrounds and community centers, said Logan Todd, a foundation spokesman. Salvation Army: At both ends of the state, the Salvation Army is providing meals to shelters in local churches, fairgrounds and a community college. To the victims affected by this tragedy, you are in our thoughts and prayers. From our ICSAVE Family to yours, we will NEVER forget you nor your strength in the face of these horrible events!

Mesa Public Safety Active Violence Response Training

You can see the original version of this article Mesa Public Safety Active Violence Response Training right here: http://www.icsave.org

On November 12th and 13th, 53 public safety representatives from throughout Arizona conducted 16 hours of intense active violence response training. The purpose of the Public Safety Integration Operations Course is to deconstruct the nature of these evolving threats as well as offer awareness-level integrated point-of-wound care instruction specifically focused on dynamic active violence, all-hazards and/or explosive threats. Day 2’s activities were the culmination of several hours of didactic, practical skills and real-world scenarios’ based training, focusing on the practical application of the 3 phases of Tactical Emergency Casualty Care (TECC) and ensuring that all participants had the knowledge, skills and abilities to implement these lifesaving skills under stressful conditions. Active violence events have resulted in numerous civilian casualties and captured the attention of the nation. These horrific and calculated acts have dramatically impacted countless individuals and communities by instilling fear that such events can unpredictably occur in urban, suburban, rural and metropolitan areas. Despite evolving threats, many public safety organizations throughout the country have yet to develop response paradigms to meet these challenges.

This course is specifically targeted for law enforcement and fire / EMS organizations who want to proactively develop integrated response strategies to mitigate the impact a violent mass casualty incident can have on their community. This workshop is recognized by both the Arizona Center for Fire Service Excellence (AzCFSE) and Arizona Peace Officers Standards and Training (AZPOST) Committees.
